Needs: The Reader welcomes new poems and short fiction, which together account for 20-25% of each issue. Currently submissions in these categories greatly outnumber those for non-fiction.

Length: Short stories or (more rarely) extracts from novels are normally 2,000-2,500 words long, and only exceptionally exceed 3,000 words.

Payment: Very flexible. Payment is not usual but negotiable. We like to give contributors 2 or 3 free subscriptions to give away to their friends and relations.

Response Time: All submissions are given careful consideration and will usually be read and discussed by the whole editorial board.
