Rights: First North American serial and electronic rights
Needs: SEAM is accepting queries for both features and departments covering outdoor sports and events in our nine-state region, which includes Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. We cover a wide variety of sports, both on land and in the water. Water sports include fly-fishing, wind surfing, kayaking, canoeing, white water rafting and more. Land sports include climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, hiking, camping, snowboarding, skiing, caving, adventure racing and more. One of our specialties is our Journal and Mileposts departments. Journal contains an environmental department, as well as a department featuring areas outside the Southeast, preferably outside the United States. Mileposts is the section in which we cover competition, exhibitions and other events in our region. While not all sports are covered in each issue, SEAM covers most standard sports on a regular basis.
Length: features--2,500 to 4,000 words;
departments--1,200 to 1,500 words;
events--500 to 700 words
How to Submit: Writers should submit queries to Southeastern Adventures Magazine, PO Box 670263, Marietta, GA 30066, or via email. Contact either Chris Thorn or Nicole Thompson. Electronic submissions should be in Microsoft Word format for PCs and RTF format for Macs.
Response Time: Please allow three to four weeks for a response.
Tips for Writers: Writers should include specific details and background about the location and the sport being covered. Stories should have an element of adventure or discovery that makes the reader want to be there with the writer. While our readers are outdoor sport enthusiasts, not all of them are experts in every sport, so keep that in mind when using technical jargon.
Sample Copies/Subscription Information: SEAM can be found in bookstores in the Southeast, including Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million. Subscriptions and sample copies can be obtained by contacting the magazine by telephone or letter.
