Needs: Evil Tales is the internet’s newest ‘zine of unrestrained horror. We are currently seeking original, inventive, literary quality horror. Stories should be shocking, envelope-burning, engaging entertainment. Well-written, nicely rounded stories with interesting characters, realistic action, and a decidedly evil bent will grab our attention! Although not opposed to stories that cross genres, all stories should have some element of horror.

Evil Tales is open to both new and established writers. We are looking for short fiction of approximately 5,000 - 8,000 words. If your story is longer than 8,000 words you may query with a short sample (no more than 1,000 words).

We prefer previously unpublished work. Previously published work may be considered from established authors. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable if we are notified. In addition, multiple submissions are acceptable. Just send them to us separately; not in one huge document.

What we don’t want: Vampires – unless they are extremely original. If it makes us think of Ann Rice, we probably won’t accept it. Illiterate, sloppy work lacking cohesion. Fan Fiction. We do not want that story that's already seen 40 rejections, has been given suggestions for improvement by other editors, and is still exactly the same as it was on its first submission. We do not want remakes of classics. We do not want immature fiction that is 95% dialogue. We do not want fiction that uses more adverbs than adjectives. We do not want flash fiction or vignettes. Finally, although we will be understanding about a random typographical error, please make certain that your submission is ready for viewing. Numerous spelling and grammatical errors will send a story to the rejection pile in quick order.

Length: Open
