Needs: Evil Tales is the internets newest zine of unrestrained horror. We are currently seeking original, inventive, literary quality horror. Stories should be shocking, envelope-burning, engaging entertainment. Well-written, nicely rounded stories with interesting characters, realistic action, and a decidedly evil bent will grab our attention! Although not opposed to stories that cross genres, all stories should have some element of horror.
Evil Tales is open to both new and established writers. We are looking for short fiction of approximately 5,000 - 8,000 words. If your story is longer than 8,000 words you may query with a short sample (no more than 1,000 words).
We prefer previously unpublished work. Previously published work may be considered from established authors. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable if we are notified. In addition, multiple submissions are acceptable. Just send them to us separately; not in one huge document.
What we dont want: Vampires unless they are extremely original. If it makes us think of Ann Rice, we probably wont accept it. Illiterate, sloppy work lacking cohesion. Fan Fiction. We do not want that story that's already seen 40 rejections, has been given suggestions for improvement by other editors, and is still exactly the same as it was on its first submission. We do not want remakes of classics. We do not want immature fiction that is 95% dialogue. We do not want fiction that uses more adverbs than adjectives. We do not want flash fiction or vignettes. Finally, although we will be understanding about a random typographical error, please make certain that your submission is ready for viewing. Numerous spelling and grammatical errors will send a story to the rejection pile in quick order.
Payment: Payment: Although we hope to eventually pay professional rates, Evil Tales is just starting out. Currently, we can only pay for the editors choice. All other selections will be exposure only. The editors choice for each issue will receive ½ cent per word or $25.00 whichever is higher.
How to Submit: Submission Format: Submissions should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. In the subject line of your e-mail, please specify: Submission: (insert title of work). In this world of computer viruses, we cant be too careful. Any e-mail that does not follow this guideline will be immediately deleted without being read.
Send a short cover letter stating if piece has been previously published, and if so, where. Editors will contact upon acceptance for bio info & publishing credits.
