Needs: ISLANDS (8 times a year as of January 2000) is a travel magazine that focuses on islands around the world: urban, rural, tropical or windswept, well-known or virtually undiscovered. We strive for geographical and topical diversity and encourage articles with a well-defined focus and point of view. Our purpose is, in effect, to take the reader to the island. To that end, we seek informative, insightful, personal pieces that reveal the essence of the place.

Length: In every issue there are usually several feature articles, ranging from 2,500 to 4,000 words. There are also occasional shorter features of about 1,500 to 2,000 words. See guidelines for length of shorter filler articles.
